Modern History Examinations for students in Years 11 and 12 are written with strict adherence to the design brief provided by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority.  Updated modifications and close scrutiny of the 2016-2021 ATAR Examinations also inform the content and structure of Hooked on Humanities Exams.

Dear History Teacher,

Thank you for purchasing HoH Modern History exams over the last 8 years. Hooked on Humanities will no longer be writing Modern History examinations. We wish you the very best as you continue to inspire your students to value the lessons history teaches us all. Giselle

Testimonials

As a graduate teacher I have found both the exams and work packages from Hooked on Humanities accessible and organised for both myself and my students. The exams are well structured and align directly with SCSA guidelines. Furthermore, they are challenging yet realistic in preparing students for their end of year ATAR Examination. The exams save me a lot of time as a new teacher and provide me with time to focus on content and skills with my students

Hooked on Humanities Year 11 examinations for Semesters One and Two are highly well thought out papers that offer currency and adhere to the design brief provided by SCSA. Our teachers have the opportunity to not stress out in constructing exams, giving them more time to the exciting business of teaching History! Giselle is a wonderful, proficient and professional operator to deal with.

We purchase the Hooked on Humanities papers every semester for our Year 11 and Year 12 Modern History classes and we have been very happy with the papers; challenging enough for our cohort but accessible and flexible enough for average students. It saves me hours of work and allows me to focus on preparing my students for the WACE.
— Willetton Senior High School, 2018
I am certainly Hooked on Humanities or have been since 2017. Giselle Mafa has done a wonderful job in providing excellent examination resources that really assist Year 11 and 12 ATAR Modern History teachers at the busiest and most stressful times of the year. Giselle is meticulous in her care and attention to detail and a credit to the History profession in Western Australia. I recommend unreservedly Hooked on Humanities’ products. Thank you, Giselle!
— Grant Miocevich, Head of Humanities, Sacred Heart College, 2018
The Year 11 and 12 History exams were well structured according to SCSA design principles and included an excellent range of sources and essay questions covering the full scope of the course. It was a very fair yet challenging assessment that accurately represented the demands of the ATAR course and exam.

leveraging past papers

LEVERAGING PAST PAPERS FOR FUTURE SUCCESS is designed for teachers to tap into and re-purpose exam papers that have been collected. Suggestions for activities students can complete individually and collaboratively are also included.

Reviews from a current Modern History teachers in Perth, Western Australia:

‘Leveraging past papers for future success’ is an excellent resource for time-poor teachers. Whilst we reflect upon the examiner’s comments from the previous year’s exam in each new year, we often do not have the ‘creative space’ or time to ‘unpack’ this feedback. Being able to link the issues that have been identified with specific teaching strategies and classroom activities will be a game changer for many of us who want our students to improve their analytical and writing skills.

Sometimes I feel stuck for ideas on how to present skills work in different ways. After reading 'Leveraging Past Papers for Future Success' I am excited to try some of these strategies with my students.
