About .png

Hooked on Humanities was launched in January 2016 to support teachers who work to deliver quality teaching and learning experiences. In an age of ever-increasing demands on our profession, time for planning and developing is becoming increasingly scarce.

Teachers want their students to enjoy learning, recognise they are a part of a collaborative process and to experience success in this endeavour. To this end, our resources seek to engender critical thinking and foster creative solutions by offering challenging activities that are grounded in research and which recognise the demands of the 21st century classroom.

Examinations for students in Years 10 to 12 are written with adherence to the design brief provided by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority. The examinations have received outstanding feedback from teachers in Western Australia.

Feedback from Source Analysis Master Class Participants (February & March 2020):

I learnt great ways to teach source analysis to students and left with a great pack of resources.

After a long time teaching History, it’s great to have reaffirmations plus new ways of approaching teaching.

It was great to refresh and develop new strategies for the classroom. It gave me some great ideas to use.

Excellent resources, knowledge shared and tangible ideas that can be implemented in the classroom.

I wanted to re-engage. The theories, the information and collaborative tasks facilitated that…. re-invigorating!

I learnt a lot and am walking away with many new strategies and ideas.

Hooked on Humanities have and continue to produce examinations in Year 11 and 12 that reflect the intent of the ATAR Exam Design Brief and Modern History syllabus. Students find reflecting on the exams and using the marking keys great preparation for end of year exams.

The Year 11 and 12 History exams were well structured according to SCSA design principles and included an excellent range of sources and essay questions covering the full scope of the course. It was a very fair yet challenging assessment that accurately represented the demands of the ATAR course and exam.
— Adele Baker, IMCC 2017
The Year 12 exam provides a genuine reflection of the WACE exam by incorporating key specific questions linked to the syllabus, as well as combining the source analysis questions. By purchasing an external exam this can assist teachers in ensuring that their examinations remain impartial which can only benefit the students in the lead up to the WACE exam.

The History teacher teaching Year 11 History was very happy with the paper.
— On Year 11 Semester 1, 2017 Modern History examination, South West, WA
... a resource which is insightful and balanced, bound to cultivate the students’ capacity in critical analysis. The style is also dynamic and engaging. Information is up to date.
— On 'China Today' by Associate Professor Jie Chen, Political Science and International Relations, University of Western Australia
Great well thought out exams that resemble the SCASA requirements. The exams extend students to meet the rigour and expectations of the WACE exam at the end of Year 12. The Year 11 exam was equally valid and comprehensive in the range of topics it covered.

LOVED the detailed answer key ... What a dream it was to mark and be able to go through the answers with the students.

I’ve been speaking with a number of my colleagues in other schools recommending your exam this morning but am closely guarding my copy on my thumb drive.
